Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen - the 5% lesson

The 5%
One of the privileges of sitting behind the camera during leadership conversations is hearing ideas that stay with me long after the podcast ends.
This week, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen shared a simple observation. He said that when people ask him for help, he often gives them something to work on first. Only about 5% actually follow through.
That made me think.
Many of us ask for opportunities, introductions, or support. But perhaps the real opportunity comes after the conversation. Following through is what builds trust.
As I continue building the Nevada Leadership Archive, I realize the project itself is an exercise in follow-through. Every portrait, every conversation, every article, and every collaboration begins with one commitment: to keep showing up and finishing what I started.
Brian also spoke about his passion for helping build Las Vegas. Listening to leaders from different industries over the past few years, I've noticed a common theme. They rarely talk about success as an individual achievement. They talk about partnerships, relationships, and the people who helped make progress possible.
The Nevada Leadership Archive has taught me that leadership is not only about vision. It's about consistency. It's about doing the work after the meeting is over.
Perhaps that's why only 5% stand out.
