A Decade of Learning, Relationships, and Purpose

This year marks ten years since I joined the Vegas Chamber.

When I moved to Las Vegas, I was focused on building my photography business in a city where I knew very few people. Like many small business owners, I joined the Chamber hoping to meet people and grow my business.

What I didn't expect was how much I would learn.

Over the years, the Chamber introduced me to conversations about economic development, workforce, education, business, and community leadership. I attended events, volunteered, and spent a lot of time listening. After a while, I started noticing the same people showing up across different organizations, working together to move Southern Nevada forward.

Three years sitting behind the camera for the Workforce Connections podcast taught me even more. Listening to more than 150 conversations with CEOs, educators, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and public servants helped me understand how leadership works. I saw how partnerships are built, how trust develops over time, and how people from different organizations work toward the same goals.

As I learned more about the people, I became curious about the work behind the titles. I wanted to understand what they were building, why they cared so much about it, and how their work connected with others.

Over time, I realized that years from now people will still see the schools, businesses, hospitals, neighborhoods, and organizations that helped shape Nevada. What is much harder to see are the people who accepted the responsibility of building them, serving their communities, and helping Nevada grow. Those stories deserve to be remembered too.

That realization gradually shaped the direction of my work.

Today, every portrait session, every leadership project, and every conversation adds another piece to the Nevada Leadership Archive. My goal is to document the people entrusted with building organizations, strengthening communities, creating opportunities, and serving Nevada. Every portrait is one small piece of a much larger story.

Looking back, I can see how the last ten years fit together. Every event, every volunteer opportunity, every podcast, and every conversation helped me understand Nevada a little better. I never expected that joining the Chamber to grow my business would eventually lead me to a project that has become so meaningful to me.

My hope is that years from now, someone looking back at Nevada's history will not only see what was built, but also the people who dedicated part of their lives to building it.
